A great loss

Listen again in full

The loss of Jean Johnson's son is exacerbated by the mystery surrounding its cause...

Jean Johnson's son Craig died suddenly and unexpectedly last November. He was only 21 year's old. But Jean's grief has been exacerbated by the fact that she still doesn't know the cause.

Craig's death was officially recorded as due to natural causes, but Jean is convinced he died from Sudden Adult Death Syndrome. There are around 3,500 cases of Sudden Adult Death Syndrome in the UK each year. Most of these are due to an electrical impulse misfiring in the heart. But around 150 appear to be completely without explanation. Craig's death falls into this category.

Listen to the interview to find out how Jean has coped with her sudden loss and how she aims to raise awareness about SADS
