All this talk recently on Home Truths about underpants, led Margot Hutchinson to send the following missive:

"A few years ago I spent a long weekend in Bath with a friend of many years standing. We'd never shared a room before which is why I had such a surprise when on our first morning there she appeared from the bathroom partially dressed and wearing her knickers over her tights. I burst out laughing which lasted a few minutes.

"What's the matter?" she said

"You look like a Cumbrian wrestler" I replied "Why are you wearing your tights under your knickers?"

"I've always worn them like this" she answered, "right from the time I was a student nurse. We all did in the nurses home."

Visions of these young nurses wandering around looking like Cumbrian wrestlers set me off again. I have never met anyone else who wears their tights like this."
