Funny Valentine

Maggie Chapman has sent the same man a Valentines day card for forty years, although they've never been romantically linked

In her teens over forty years ago, Maggie Chapman liked to send Valentines Day cards to boys who didn't have girlfriends.

One of the recipients of her cards was Mike, a young bank clerk. Mike managed to work out who sent him the card and luckily, saw the joke.

The following year, Maggie was surprised to receive a Valentines Day card from Mike and they've been exchanging cards ever since.

This has now been going on for forty years and he's never missed a year - well almost. One year Maggie did forget. She saw Mike in the street and he look quite crestfallen. But Maggie says, one year Mike's card was late and she thought, "There was something terrible missing from my life. I thought, Oh dear, Mike's forgotten me".

Maggie and Mike very rarely meet. "We've always had a very easy relationship. When we do see each other, we laugh a lot". But there's never been anything more to it than that.
