Peter Allinson and James Baxter both had heart transplant operations two years ago. But James and Peter have, it turns out, more than this in common
Peter Allinson and James Baxter are good friends, but they met in the most unusual of locations, the outpatients waiting room at the Harefield Hospital.
They were chatting when a nurse asked who was going to the Transplant Club weekend. It turned out that neither of them could swim in the hotel pool because they had both recently had transplants.
As the conversation progressed and the two asked each other questions about their transplants, they realised James had received a new heart and lungs from an unknown man and Peter had received James's healthy heart.
They are both keen sportsmen and both have competed in the European Transplant Games. James entered 8 events and Peter entered 5 events. Both of them have won numerous medals.
They both agree that they would have been good mates anyway. They were put together by unusual circumstances, but there is no silly bond because Peter has James heart. They just get on well together and it is a friendship that should carry on and on.
