Will the real Sammy Jane...

Jay Rowden has a bit of a dilemma. It turns out that his wife and his sister have the same name - Sammy Jane. So how does he get around this problem?

Vivien
Sammy Jane (sister), Jay, and Sammy Jane (wife)

Jay Rowden first saw the woman who was to be his wife across a crowded office. He’d had his eye on her for a long time. Her name was Samantha, the same name as his sister.

It was only after their first date that he discovered she also had the same middle name as his sister. Jay took this for a sign from the gods. Sammy Jane was the one for him.

Jay left it a year before he proposed. When they got married, Samantha ended up with exactly the same name as his sister: Samantha Jane Rowden. But Jay’s sister had recently married too so Sammy Jane took on the name that Jay’s sister had recently abandoned.

But then a dilemma presented itself: Jay’s sister divorced and reclaimed the Rowden name. Now there were two Samantha Jane Rowdens. At 83, Jay Rowden’s grandmother finds this proliferation of Sammys confusing and Jay's friends think his wife having the same name as his sister just "a bit Freudian".

But how do the two Sammy Janes get on? Jay says they are two very different personalities, "one from the north pole, the other most definitely from the south".

An end to the confusion may be insight though. Jay’s sister Sammy Jane has found a new man and is planning to marry next year - and has every intention of changing her surname.
