Star Crossed Love

Justina Cronin's engagement to Tom and their and wedding preparations seemed ill-fated. But it all 'came right' in the end...

Michele Hanson

Tom had borrowed a dog for the weekend in which he was going to propose to Justina. The idea was a romantic walk along the beach, with the proposal written in the sand.

The dog was so excited at the prospect of this walk that she peed on the car seat. Justina swapped her damp troisers and pants for jogging bottoms. Trying to stop the dog attacking another one, she broke her leg. Tom nipped home to find her a pair of pants before driving her to hospital. Unfortunately he then left to return to dog to its owners with knickers still in his pocket. 'Wired to the moon on morphine', Justina had no hestiation in asking hte doctors to run after her boyfriend - who had her knickers in his pocket.

So Tom finally proposed the following Friday. He put the ring in with her MacDonalds - a romantic to the last.

Preparations for the wedding were hectic. Justina was in plaster until March. They had to find and replace, caterers, a band for the evening, a priest to marry them. And the day before the wedding the pub where the reception was being held decided they were upping their prices. Despite all this the wedding day was fantastic.

Justina and Tom's honeymoon was a trip to a Renault 4 rally in Arnhem. An administrative error had been made and their ferry tickets cancelled. But as an omen that things were only going to get better, the ferry workers made room for their Renault 4, which was still festooned with balloons and ribbons, and they were cheered onto the boat.
