Peter emailed the programme to tell us about a ‘memorable’ trip to the USA on a free Hoover ticket. He was offered a 2 week holiday in the sun with an attractive single woman, an offer too good to refuse, or so he thought...

In the mid 90’s Peter Higginbotham was asked if he would be interested in a free trip to the States accompanying someone who had managed to get a pair of tickets through the Hoover scheme (if you bought a Hoover product you could get a free flight for 2 to the States).

Not the impulsive type, Peter had been separated from his ex-wife for over a year and it seemed like an offer too good to pass up. He'd be travelling with a single woman - who was striking, and a member of his Quaker Meeting House.

However, it was not a happy coupling. Very ambitious plans to see the whole of California in 2 weeks caused huge frustration as did, Peter's driving, his habit of moving close when talking, his lack of enthusiasm, his over enthusiasm, his desire not to drive in the pitch black...
