Returning unwanted mail

A postman of 19 years standing, Brian Savage suggests that if you write 'Gone Away' on envelopes, the postman must take note. Returned mail is endorsed by the postman who delivers it.

Other suggestions are:
The Bereavement Register which is run by the REaD Group

By Post: The Read Group (UK) Ltd
Freepost SEA8240
Sevenoaks, TN13 1YR

By Telephone 0870 600 7222
By Fax 0870 400 5644

or:
The Mail Preference Service
FREEPOST 22
London W1E 7EZ

These provide lists of people who have died to direct mail companies, who then edit their lists accordingly.

Glen of Gloucester (a postman) adds:
Did you know Royal Mail is doing gentic research on donkeys, greyhounds and the humble Postie. Why? so we can carry twice as much mail at double the speed!'
