Visiting Bullock

When Joyce Barge and her husband David bought a farm near Rochdale in the late seventies, they had teething problems with the fencing. Their not-so-cutesy little lambs were prone to sneaking out the farm and into the garden...

a friendly bullock

When Joyce returned home from the shops one Friday morning, she wasn’t that surprised to find that the fence had been breached and those fluffy menaces were busy destroying her horticultural handiwork.

But what was to shock was the presence of a bullock. Not in the garden. Oh, no. This cheeky bovine was looking deeply relaxed in Joyce and David’s lounge.

Unlucky Joyce concluded that she must have left the back door unfastened as she herded the children out to school. The beast had then sneaked into the porch, across the kitchen, through the dining room and into the lounge.

And he'd left a trail. A bowl of black peas Joyce had left soaking were scoffed and in return he’d emptied the contents of his bowels and bladder.

Joyce managed to manoeuvre the animal out of the house and back into the field. Her negotiating skills had been pushed to the limit, and when she bolted that gate, she screamed!

A week later, that distinctive rural au-de-cologne still lingered. Only when Joyce swept the floor did she find that their four-legged friend had splatter-painted the undersides of the kitchen chairs. Lovely.

But Joyce and David were to have the last laugh. It wasn’t long before the bullock made a return to the kitchen… but this time he came with carrots and gravy!
