FROM YOU In-laws and out-laws, company names and Hamster farming.. re: In-Laws and Out-laws
Xandra Bingley contact us after our requests for alternative titles to boyfriend/girlfriend. These she says are ‘small fry’ compared to her problems, so we asked her in to explain.
Xandra married very young and she and Husband Number One had a son.
They divorced and Husband Number One re-married, so he has Wife No.2 who is German by birth and to whom Xandra refers as wife-in-law. Xandra and Husband No.1’s Wife No.2 are friends - but there must be something better to call her than wife-in-law? Xandra likes the idea of something nice sounding, 'so-so?'
Anyway Xandra re-married. Hence Husband No.2 and they had a child. Husband no.2 already had 4 children of his own, the youngest stepson just sent Xandra the card 'To The Youngest Of My Mothers'.
Husband No.2 and Xandra split up and he married Wife No.3 in the extended family. Wife No.3 has 2 children from her previous marriage.
Now it gets complicated (yes more complicated) because these different members of the extended family have good relationships with each other. 1st husband has a good relationship with the child from the 2nd husband. The 2nd husband’s first wife had a lot of communication with Xandra because of the children so they have built up a friendship. Xandra is now asking Home Truths listeners if they have creative, fun and affectionate names for these various relationships.
Re: Company Names
Jonathan Card emailed Home Truths, 'Forget all the Doctors and Lawyers and Such (now what song does that line come from???) What about this for an air-conditioning company, seen and photographed in London.'
And re: Percy Parslow's Hamster Farm
Paul Cary contacted us to say, 'Well John, this is freaky. I was working away on Andy’s web site – Dreamtree – whilst listening to Home Truths, my usual Saturday morning activity, and putting the finishing touches to the Percy Parslows Hamster Farm lyrics when you start to talk about Hamsters! Now that has to be spooky, don’t you think?
Now I know you are going to talk about Dandelion (you see I know these things!!!!) next week and maybe even Percy himself, so I thought you would like to take a look at these pages on the site to recap over those remarkable days.'
