Fifties Hip

Colin Hebden is so in love with 'Fifties Americana that he has transformed his house and garden into a shrine to all things Elvis, James and Marilyn as he told Jennifer Chevalier...

The James Dean stairway

Colin's quest started five years ago when he bought his car. It cost £3000 to buy and a fortune to run but a passion was born.

The stairway is James Dean themed, the kitchen is Elvis.

He thinks he's attracted to the quality and the sense of fun with which 1950's American memorabilia is imbued. His friends think he's mad, but he thinks stripy wallpaper and borders are just as mad.

Now Colin and his very accepting wife Anita have a diner in the back garden. It was originally a touring caravan which he converted. The children like eating there sometimes, though the oldest find the whole house embarrassing and disown him when people come round.

Colin now wants a 1950's petrol pump to go with the garage.
