Top of the ClassTeacher, Peter Gibson from Bristol recognised a face from the past in his new class... "Remember me?" were the words that greeted foreign language teacher, Peter Gibson, at the start of term. Words, seemingly innocuous, but for Peter they set his knees trembling. "Mr Spiller!" responded Peter, seeing his English teacher from secondary school, who was, very obviously about to join Peter's class. It was an unnerving moment for Peter who admitted, "Inside, I panicked. It was now two minutes before I had to teach my old teacher. I was prepared, but if I'd known, I'd have spent weeks preparing that lesson!" It all went pretty smoothly, Martin giving some answers which Peter admits he listened to as one of the class. Martin's relaxed about being a pupil again, "It's very nice being on the receiving end of wisdom of those younger than me. And Pete was very good!" Peter remembers Martin's classes. He even attributes one particular lesson with him in which he was asked to read his homework to the class, Shakepeare's Seven Ages of Man written from a woman's point of view, as the inspiration for his continuing interest in language. The two keep in touch now, and Martin's presence in class has given Peter a boost of confidence. None too reverently, he concludes, "If I can deal with that, I can deal with anything!" Who's your inspirational figure from the past? How did their influence affect your life? | |
