Uncovering Iran: Ancient and Modern

Wednesday 27 September 2006 11:00-11:30 (Radio 4 FM)

Iran is the site of some of the wonders of the ancient world - Isfahan and its beautiful mosques, the city of Persepolis built by Darius and Xerxes and sacked by Alexander the Great, and Pasargadae - the capital and resting place of Persia's first Emperor, Cyrus the Great.

Director of the British Museum Neil MacGregor travels to all three sites, and talks to Iranians about how this extraordinary heritage still shapes their sense of identity.
