Ruth Rendell is one of Britain's best known crime writers, and the creator of the perennially popular Chief Inspector Wexford. She writes bestsellers under both her own name and the pseudonym Barbara Vine.

Charles Williams (1886-1945) was a prolific poet, novelist and theologian, and close friend of C S Lewis and J R R Tolkien. His 1931 novel deals with a mysterious stone which allows its owners to travel at will in space and time. Reader: Bruce Alexander.
