This week’s guests:
Justin Francis is the Managing Director of responsibletravel.com. Justin thinks that we need to balance the positives of good tourism with the negatives of damage to the environment and at the same time be realistic about what we can do: ‘Big’ holidays in moderation, more local holidays and holidays by train for example. He believes that ‘sustainable’ means making a positive impact on a community or place and travelling in the most environmentally friendly way possible as well as giving local people a voice and a partnership with travel operators.
Kate Humble is the well known presenter of television programmes Springwatch, Autumnwatch, Animal Park and Rough Science. Kate is also an enthusiastic traveller, passionate about conservation and the environment. Kate thinks sustainable tourism can be big and small, can be just eating in the local pub when you go on holiday to, say, Wales. Kate runs a website encouraging charitable giving to help local communities people may visit while on holiday.
