WATER
Water is colourless, tasteless and odorless; in all its forms it can be beautiful, deadly, complex and compelling. We all need it and yet according to most estimates around a billion people in the world don’t have access to clean water.
Sandi Toksvig explores the globe for various sources of water in the company of journalist Rupert Wright whose book Take me to the Source – In Search of Water charts his eclectic and personal tour from Brazil to India, Manhattan to Paris.
SOUTH KOREA
Writer Jennifer Barclay went to South Korea to hear her musician boyfriend play funk in a luxury Seoul hotel and in the great tradition of the inquisitive traveller, she decided to go off and explore the country by herself in search of Seoul’s soul. Julian Appleby has just returned to Britain after spending seven years teaching in South Korea. They share their experiences of this traditional culture still largely unknown to many in the West.

Rupert Wright is a journalist and writer. When Rupert’s only water supply ran dry in his house in France he was inspired to learn more and journey to the sources of water, travelling from Brazil where a Bishop went on hunger strike to save a river, to New York where the largest construction in the city’s history is taking place - an enormous tunnel that will bring water from the Catskills Mountains - and to India, where in parts of New Delhi, every day children wait by the road side for a tanker of water because there’s no mains supply.
His latest book Take me to the Source is a travelogue and meditation on water, its power, value and use. Rupert travels widely and muses on people who have lots of water and people who have little and much in between.

When Jennifer Barclay met Gavin, a young Irish drummer in a funk band she decided to leave everything and go with him on a band residency to a luxury hotel in Seoul.
