Half timbered houses, saucy seaside postcards, Hovis and Horlicks, lighthouses and coastguards, thatched Cotswold cottages and clotted cream teas, chalk from the white cliffs and Stilton blue cheese.

Caroline Stanford is a historian with The Landmark Trust, a building preservation charity, founded in 1965 by Sir John and Lady Smith. It was established to rescue historic and architecturally interesting buildings and their surroundings from neglect. When restored the buildings are let for holidays. The income generated then pays for the buildings future maintenance. In her job Caroline researches the buildings' history and writes about their restoration and refurbishment process. Caroline has stayed in quite a few of the Landmark Trust properties. Her favourite is always the most recent one she’s stayed in. At the moment it is Luttrell’s Tower, an 18th century Gothic folly in Hampshire with stunning views of the Solent.
