Paul Heiney visits the ancient city of Krakow to sample the spirit of a Polish Christmas. With two guides Ania Wszelaczynska and Ania Strycharska-Kuhny, Paul walks around the Christmas market, a feature of many of the towns of Eastern Europe, and looks at an exhibition of Szopke, the elaborate Christmas cribs traditional to the city of Krakow.
Paul enjoys some of the culinary delights which brings Polish families together on Christmas Eve in the company of Ewa Wachowicz and Antonina Turnau and finds our why Poles are passionate about posters with Piotr Kunze.

Polish Christmas traditions: The Szopka (shop-kah) - the Krakowian Creche. Ceations of tin paper are entered into competition each year on the square of Mariacki (St. Mary's Cathedral) in Krakow. The largest collection of past exhibits can be found in the Ethnographic Museum of Krakow in the Kazimierz district.
