Roger McGough introduces a selection of poems chosen by listeners
This week we are marking John Betjeman's centenary with a special programme.
The “John Betjeman” section of the Poetry Please request files is always packed; he’s one of the most popular poets featured on the programme.
We’re proud to present a celebration of Sir John’s work, read by some of our most respected actors – Stephen Fry, Miriam Margolyse and Samuel West. Stephen Fry told us he was pleased to be asked because he had, as a schoolboy, met John Betjeman so his work has a particular resonance for him – as you can hear in his performance.
We will be returning with a new series on 1st October
