Stone: Ten Bindings
Bookbinder Faith Shannon’s exhibition opens at the Dean Gallery, Edinburgh from 15 July until 8 October. It comprises of ten bindings of “Stone”, a book of poems by George Mackay Brown (1921–1996), which was published in 1987 in a limited edition of 125 with nine colour photographs by Gunnie Moberg. Faith explains the thought processes behind her bindings and, with Gavin Rookledge, talks generally about the art of bookbinding, the relationship between the book’s cover and content and the future of bookbinding in an increasingly commercial publishing world.
