This week's programme
Mariella Frostrup talks to Ian McEwan, whose new novel, Saturday, is about to be published. McEwan began writing short stories which shocked critics and readers alike because of their unsettling content. But as he's developed as a writer, books such as Enduring Love, The Child In Time and Atonement have won him a wide readership and the Booker Prize for his novel Amsterdam.
Saturday centres around Henry Perowne, a neurosurgeon who wakes up early one morning to see what he thinks is a terrorist attack out of his bedroom window. The date is February 15th 2003 and as Anti Iraq-War marchers assemble in London, Henry Perowne's day is about to get worse.
