THE TODAY PLAYS
The RSC has come up with a novel approach to playmaking. Each day a director and writer construct a play inspired by the day's news which is then performed in the evening. Francine Stock talks to Guardian writer Alfred Hickling.

The Today Plays will be devised and performed at the RSC in Newcastle from 4 until 13 October.
