THURSDAY NIGHT

* Hollywood's love affair with London theatre continues. Following stage appearances by Kevin Spacey, Kathleen Turner and Matt Damon - and with Madonna currently in preview at another theatre - the Oscar-winning Gwynneth Paltrow opened last night at the Donmar Warehouse Theatre. Paltrow stars in Proof, a drama by David Auburn, which has won both a major theatre award, a Tony, and a significant literary prize, the Pulitzer.

Proof is running at the Donmar Warehouse Theatre, London. It's sold out except for returns.

* Many theories exist about the fate of stolen paintings. No-one has ever imagined masterpieces being thrown out with the potato peelings. But in France that is what has happened to 60 stolen paintings, including works by Breughel and Watteau. Front Row talks about the empty walls of art history.

* A new report, published on 17 May, suggests that readers in Britain should not be worrying so much about the lost libraries of the past as the threat to those of the present. Front Row reports.

* Tony Kushner is one of America's leading political playwrights, frequently attacking US policies towards gays, AIDS patients, and the Soviet Union. He now turns his attention to Afghanistan with Homebody/Kabul. Front Row asked him why.

Homebody/Kabul is at the Young Vic theatre, London until 22 June.

* Game On is an exhibition devoted to the art and culture of video games. Exhibits range from 1962's Spacewar, the first ever computer game, through arcade games such as Space Invaders, to games consoles including Game Boy and Play Station. Since most of the examples can be played, this may well be the first art show where the attendants will tell you off for not touching the exhibits.

Jo Shapcott reviews Game On, at the Barbican Centre in London until 15 September.
