 |  |  |  |  | |  |  |  | Chris is Film Critic for the Daily Mail. He is author of The Critics’ Film Guide, and was Chairman of the British Film Critics’ Circle between 1994 and 1998.
Before he turned to writing and broadcasting full-time, 15 years ago, he produced and directed hundreds of TV programmes. He has written the book, music and lyrics for ten stage musicals, the most recent of which is Hard Times, which he directed, co-wrote and co-produced. |

On Back Row this week we talk to two of cinema's great sex symbols Colin Firth and Jane Birkin, discuss a new film about Che Guevara and look back at the urban classic La Haine.
Colin Firth Chris Tookey talks to Colin Firth, who broke many a heart playing Mr Darcy in Pride and Prejudice and starred in Fever Pitch, Girl with a Pearl Earring and Love Actually. Firth will next be seen in Trauma, where he plays a man piecing his life back together after a car accident and in November he returns to the screen in the Bridget Jones sequel.
The Motorcycle Diaries The Edinburgh Film Festival opened this week with the much anticipated film The Motorcycle Diaries, the story of the young Che Guevara's motorbike tour of South America. Mike Gonzalez, lecturer in Hispanic Studies, discusses this new portrayal of the revolutionary leader.

La Haine La Haine, a tough portrayal of 24 hours in the life of a group of French youths reacting to a fatal shooting is about to be re-released. Chris Tookey looks back at the landmark film with its director Mathieu Kassovitz a decade after the film was first released.
