On the Verb Ian McMillan talks to Dinaw Mengestu, winner of this year's Guardian First Book Award about writing from an Ethiopian-American perspective and his love of F Scott Fitzgerald. Dinaw also reads from his new, unpublished novel and reveals how much he plans his writing and how much he allows characters to take over the story.
Also on the programme, poets Olivia McCannon and Peter Robinson discuss the effect that living abroad has had on their work and crime novelist Colin Dexter shares his life long love of Homer with The Verb.
