Saturday 22 October 2005 22:20-23:00 (Radio 3)

Lost Consonants author Graham Rawle talks about his latest novel, a cut/paste homage to 1950s women's magazines. Plus a performance from Aisle 16, the UK's first poetry boy band. With Ian McMillan.

Duration:

40 minutes

Programme Details

This week on The Verb, Ian McMillan is joined by author Graham Rawle, of The Guardian's Lost Consonants fame, who has just completed a novel composed entirely of excerpts from 1960s women's magazines. Graham describes to Ian the complex system of putting together the book, which took him more than five years to do, and they're also joined by the academic Oliver Harris to look back at the rich literary history of cutting and pasting.

Also on the programme, Radio 3's writer in residence for the Africa season, Rommi Smith, performs the final instalment of her series based on listeners' memories of Africa - accompanied this week by musician Ken Harris. There's energetic performance from the UK's first ever poetry boy band, Aisle 16, and Geoff Ryman, author of the online novel 253, presents his guide to the best of the web's literary blogs.

That's all on The Verb with Ian McMillan and his guests at the slightly later time of 10.20pm, here on BBC Radio 3.

Producer: Aasiya Lodhi
