David Harsent

Sunday 17 June 2007 12:00-13:00 (Radio 3)

Michael Berkeley's guest is poet David Harsent, winner of the 2005 Forward Poetry Prize for his collection, Legion. As well as nine poetry collections, he has also written opera libretti, notably for Harrison Birtwistle, with whom he is working on a new opera, The Minotaur.

His musical choices range from Britten's setting of the Border ballad The Lyke Wake Dirge and Billie Holiday singing Fine and Mellow, to Wagner's Siegfried Idyll, Beethoven's Emperor Piano Concerto, and the Sanctus from Gounod's joyous St Cecilia Mass.

Duration:

1 hour
