Two men meet on a desolate road, beside a tree. They settle down to wait, alternately bickering, joking and philosophising to pass the time. But who are they? How long will they wait? And who are they waiting for?
As part of Radio Three's Beckett centenary celebrations, Night Waves continues its regular Landmarks series, turning its focus this evening on Beckett's groundbreaking play Waiting for Godot.
Paul Allen is joined by Sir Peter Hall, who directed the play's English language premier more than fifty years ago; novelist Sebastian Barry and Beckett scholar Mary Bryden to examine the enduring power of this baffling, hilarious, heartbreaking masterpiece.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Extracts from the play are taken from a new Naxos Audiobooks production of Waiting for Godot which can be heard in full on BBC Radio Three on April 16th at 7.30pm.
