Simon Gray reads from his new book and talks about his life and his work
Programme details
This evening Night Waves is devoted to the playwright, novelist and diarist Simon Gray. He first came to prominence in the Seventies with plays such as Butley and Otherwise Engaged but more recently he’s established himself as a brilliantly witty and affecting writer of non fiction. His last volume, The Smoking Diaries, led some to describe him as“ the supreme poet of life’s little vexations” and if you want to praise him for his wit you’ll have to join a queue. This evening he’ll be reading from his forthcoming book, The Year of the Jouncer and talking to Philip Dodd about his writing and the life from which its been quarried…so why not join the two of them for an extended Night Waves inetrview here on BBC Radio three at nine thirty.
Additional information:
1) The Year of the Jouncer by Simon Gray is published by Granta and will be out in January.
2) Otherwise Engaged starring Richard E Grant is currently playing at the Criterion Theatre in London’s West End.
