Duration:

45 minutes

Programme Details

What could be more timely than a production of one of Shakespeare's history plays as polling day draws closer? And what could be more resonant than Henry the fourth? This evening in Night Waves Philip Dodd will be joined by Susannah Clapp to review the National Theatre's production which stars Michael Gambon as Falstaff. There'll also be an interview with America's most controversial film maker, Todd Solondz. His new film, Palindromes, like his prize winning entry at Cannes a few years ago, Happiness, explores the complex and troubled terrain of human sexuality. The photographer Eamon McCabe will be casting his eye over this year's winners of the World Press Photo award and the translator and critic, Amanda Hopkinson, will be reflecting on the success of Javier Cercas whose account of how civil war can distort historical truth, Soldiers of Salamis, has sold more than half a million copies in his native Spain alone. That's Night Waves with Philip Dodd here on BBC Radio 3 at nine thirty this evening.

Presenter: Philip Dodd
