Arguement and Persuasion
Argument and persuasion colour every aspect of our lives from Aristotle to The Simpsons. The insidious pair are there in posters, labels, sermons, political debate, cartoons and pop songs. There's simply no escape. And yet few of us take the trouble to consciously understand how the pair work for us and on us. Two notable exceptions to this are Tony Blair's former speechwriter, Phil Collins and the journalist, Jay Heinrichs.
They're both passionately interested in rhetoric, to give argument and persuasion their posh name, and have been writing about the subject for several years. They'll be explaining to Rana Mitter how we can use rhetoric to live not just better lives but the lives we choose.

Thank You for Arguing by Jay Heinrich is published by Allen Lane.
