Hezbollah

Tuesday 8 May 2007 21:45-22:30 (Radio 3)

Hezbollah
The radical Islamic movement that emerged in Lebanon in the early 1980's, is attempting to reinvent itself as a political party. Isabel Hilton examines the influence of a group dismissed as a terrorist organisation by America and Israel.

How might it change the political make-up of Lebanon? What is its real relationship with violence and with its backers in Iran? And how do we explain its meteoric rise to power?

Augustus Richard Norton, who has written a new history of Hezbollah, joins the American journalist Charles Glass - who was once kidnapped by the group in Beirut - to discuss the ambitions and the future of Hezbollah.

Richard Billingham
The artist Richard Billingham came to fame with pictures of his family. His latest exhibition, opening in Ipswich, is of landscapes, many of them inspired by his interest in the Romantic painter Constable and in "Constable Country".

Billingham talks to Isabel Hilton about the relationship between photographers and painters, about capturing light, disposable cameras and his new interest in nature.

Cannes at 60
The Cannes film festival is 60 years old. Throughout the week Night Waves explores the key years of its glamorous history.

The Turner Prize
As the Turner Prize shortlist is announced, Night Waves looks at whether we still care about modern art's most prestigious prize.
