Wim Wenders
As a retrospective season of his work begins at the National Film Theatre, Wim Wenders, the director of 'Wings of Desire' and 'Paris, Texas', joins Matthew Sweet to talk about finding his voice as a director, and how he has rediscovered the German Romantic in his soul after years of being seduced by America.
The Wim Winders retrospective is being held at the BFI, London from 1-31 January 2007
Richard T Kelly
Debut novelist Richard T. Kelly will be in the studio. 'Crusaders' tells the story of a young Anglican clergyman, John Gore, who returns to his native North-East to start up or 'plant' a new church in a deprived area. He'll be discussing the ways in which the novel explores the history of the Labour party and the church in the North-East.
Crusaders is published by Faber and Faber
The British Council
This weekend a petition signed by a host of artists including Antony Gormley, Damien Hirst and Rachel Whiteread was published in a national newspaper highlighting concerns about possible restructuring at The British Council. The proposed changes have yet to be submitted for public council so Night Waves asked Robert Hewison, author, critic and former Slade Professor of Fine Art, what the story was.
T.S. Elliott Prize
Matthew Sweet hears from the winner of the T.S Eliot prize, the largest cash prize in British poetry.
What to celebrate in 2008
As 2008 kick starts the EU 'year of the potato', and UN 'year of intercultural dialogue', Nightwaves hears from Lesley Lokko, the first of three writers with her proposal for what we should be celebrating this year.
