Channel 4 Television is 25 years old. The public service station began life as a committed alternative to existing channels with a remit that required it to cater for minority groups in Britain. But exactly how alternative was Channel 4?
Matthew Sweet considers the spirit of Channel 4's conception and its current reputation. His is joined by writer and former commissioning editor Farrukh Dhondy, former director of programmes, Liz Forgan, and the Guardian's media correspondent Maggie Brown who has written a history of Channel 4.
