Channel 4 turns 25
Channel 4 Television is 25 years old. The public service station began life as a committed alternative to existing channels with a remit that required it to cater for minority groups in Britain. But exactly how alternative was Channel 4?

Matthew Sweet considers the spirit of Channel 4's conception and its current reputation. His is joined by writer and former commissioning editor Farrukh Dhondy, former director of programmes, Liz Forgan, and the Guardian's media correspondent Maggie Brown who has written a history of Channel 4.

Adam Thirlwell
Adam Thirlwell burst onto the literary scene at the age of 24 with his first novel, 'Politics'. It was translated into 30 languages and became an international bestseller.

His new book is an unusual invention - a hybrid of literary criticism, photos, miniature stories and fragments of translations. He joins Matthew Sweet to discuss the problems and excitements of literary translation.

Elizabeth the Golden Age
Night Waves also takes a look at the latest film portrayal of Queen Elizabeth 1st - do we need the return of Cate Blanchett as the troubled monarch?

Joe Guy
And the latest play by award winning playwright Roy Williams - Night Waves reviews 'Joe Guy', the first night of his new play about an immigrant footballer.
