War PLC
On Night Waves tonight Matthew Sweet talks to writer and journalist Stephen Armstrong about his book War PLC. On the streets of Baghdad, Afghanistan and other trouble spots across the world, there is a new breed of private soldier operating: the corporate mercenary. WAR PLC charts the rise of the private security contractor and argues that we're far too close to letting them run not only our battlefields, but also our policing and peacekeeping operations - all without any regulations on who they can kill and how they operate.
Wyndham Lewis
A review of the first exhibition to focus on the portraits of Wyndham Lewis, one of the most important modernists of the first half of the 20th century. 58 paintings & drawings, iconic & rarely seen portraits of Eliot, Pound, Joyce, Sitwell & Woolf, and texts including the cult journal 'Blast' are on show at the National Portrait Gallery in London.
Guy Maddin
And Matthew Sweet talks to film maker Guy Maddin about his ninth film, a pseudo documentary about the director's hometown of Winnipeg. It mostly focuses on his relationship with the city, but it also includes re-enactments of his family life and famous weird things that happened in the city's past. That's all on Night Waves tonight at 9.45.
