Rana Mitter discusses Machiavelli's The Prince as a new translation is published.

MP David Willets and political historian Quentin Skinner examine the world's most famous treatise on the exercise of state power and how it is still resonant 500 years after it was published.

Machiavelli's The Prince, translated by Peter Constantine is published by Vintage.

It will be BBC Radio 4's Book of the Week from the 7th To 11th January 2008.
