Matthew Sweet and guests preview Martin Scorsese's highly anticipated feature length TV documentary about Bob Dylan - No Direction Home.
Programme Details
On Night Waves tonight Matthew Sweet reviews No Direction Home a marriage of one of America 's best-known musicians with one of its most famous directors. Martin Scorsese's two part documentary about Bob Dylan includes previously unseen footage and interviews with Dylan and those who have known and influenced him. Matthew examines the way in which it also gives us a snapshot of a turbulent and thrilling period of social history.
When you think of scientists do you think of serious and interesting folk doing pioneering work or is your image more of an erratic, shock-haired, lab-coated maniac? Matthew talks to Christopher Frayling about his new book which examines the way in which our modern-day anxieties and concerns about science may be informed by a century of presenting scientists in film as either mad or boring.
And as another row engulfs the redevelopment of Battersea Power Station and the famous chimneys look to be in danger of demolition architect Niall McLaughlin examines the cultural life of the one of the few buildings to have been embraced by musicians, filmmakers and architects alike.
Join Matthew Sweet for Night Waves tonight at the slightly later time of 9.45pm.
