Night Waves

The changing face

Tuesday 22 June 2004 21:30-22:15 (Radio 3)

Isabel Hilton and guests explore the changing face of... the face. As the Hayward Gallery opens a new show, About Face, which features artists and photographers who use the face as the starting point for their art, Night Waves considers the history of physiognomy - from the work of swiss clergyman Lavater in the 18th Century to today's evolutionary psychologists, who are busy reconstructing the notion that our faces really can reveal who we are.

Also, another love letter to an unloved space. Tonight, Steve Connor gets excited about corridors.

Duration:

45 minutes
