Matthew Sweet talks to novelist Peter Carey, whose books include the Booker prize winning novels Oscar and Lucinda and The True History of the Kelly Gang. He'll be discussing his latest novel, His Illegal Self. Set in New York and Queensland, the book tells the story of the abduction of a small boy and his experiences in the alternative community in Queensland where he is hidden. Carey talks about his own experiences of living in such a community and about the attraction of the Australian wilderness as a backdrop to his writing.
His Illegal Self is published by Faber and Faber.
There Will Be Blood
Daniel Day-Lewis has already won several awards for his performance in 'There Will Be Blood' and is a favourite to win the Best Actor award at this month's BAFTA and Oscar ceremonies. Michael Goldfarb joins Matthew in the studio to review Paul Thomas Anderson's epic film, adapted from an Upton Sinclair novel, and set in the American Southwest oil industry in the early 1900s.
There Will Be Blood is released on 8 January and is certificate 15.

Lisa Appignanesi discusses her new book 'Mad, Bad and Sad', a history of women and psychoanalysis over the last two hundred years.
