Paul Allen with a critical reaction to the Booker shortlist and an interview with Roddy Doyle about his new novel Oh, Play That Thing - the second installment in his Star Called Henry triology that sees Henry set off for America and get involved in the jazz scene there.

In Night Waves this evening Paul Allen talks to Roddy Doyle about his new book -Oh, Play That Thing -a recreation of Jazz Age America seen through the Irish eyes of Henry Smart - a fugitive Republican gunman.

There'll also be a review of the huge art show in the North West of England - the Liverpool Biennial and the Sunday Times fiction editor, Pete Kemp, will be assessing the shortlist for this year's Booker Prize.

To hear all this and to get a glimpse into the world of one of Britain's best young designers, Pascal Anson, join Paul Allen for Night Waves here on BBC Radio 3 at 9.35 this evening.
