Is it possible to understand America today without understanding the country's reaction to the attack on the World Trade Center six years ago?

Since then politicians, commentators and film makers have been offering their interpretations of what happened on September 11th and why but its taken most writers a little longer.

This week one of America's greatest chroniclers, Don DeLillo, publishes his response - a novel called Falling Man.

In Night Waves Isabel Hilton will be examining what he makes of the attack and its influence on the national psyche.
