Programme details

In Night Waves this Friday evening Craig Brown will be in the studio with Susan Hitch to talk about 1966 And All That, his new book inspired by the 75th anniversary of Sellars and Yeatman's classic 1066 and All That.
Also in the studio Kathryn Hughes will be talking about Mrs Beeton, the first Domestic Goddess, explored in her new biography The Short Life and Long Times of Mrs Beeton. Within seven years of the publication of Beeton's Book of Household Management nearly two million copies had been sold. Just twenty one when she began work on it while living in the suburbs of London she died at 28 after giving birth to her fourth child. But the book - and the many spin offs published by her husband - has remained in print ever since.

Also in the programme, Michael Rosen will be reviewing Pucker Up, a new documentary film following the fortunes of the competitors in a whistling competition in North Carolina - and Kevin Jackson will be talking about 'How to Be Rich', his new comic book version of John Ruskin's 'Unto This Last', a work which inspired Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King in its more conventional form.

Producer: Fiona McLean
Presenter: Susan Hitch
