Duration:

45 minutes

Programme Details

Jeremy Isaacs has been in Television for forty five years. He has just written the history of his TV years, which include editing This Week for ITV and Panorama for BBC. He is the man behind The World at War and he was the founding Chief Executive of Channel Four.

Joining Jeremy Isaacs around the Night Waves table are Michael Jackson - former controller of BBC 2, the sociologist Frank Furedi, historian of media Christine Geraghty and the Television writer Alkarim Jivani.

They discuss the early promise of television and explore what has actually been delivered. They discuss the "Golden age" of the medium in this country in the Sixties - was it really as influential as many would like to make out? They discuss the key relationship between creative ambition and the market place and the future implications of rapidly changing technology. To what extent has television altered our attitudes to life? Is television a reflection of society or a corrupting influence, simply promoting trivia?

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Jeremy Isaac's book 'Look Me in the Eye - A Life in Television' is published by Little, Brown on March 2nd
