Political hypocrisy
The political theorist David Runciman said that the most dangerous form of political hypocrisy is to claim to have a politics without hypocrisy. This is the basis for his argument that we should therefore distinguish between harmful and harmless forms of political hypocrisy. He discusses his ideas along with David Willetts MP and the executive editor of the Evening Standard, Anne McElvoy.
Political Hypocrisy: The Mask of Power, from Hobbes to Orwell and beyond is published by Princeton University Press.
La Antena
Nigel Floyd reviews La Antena - the aerial - a new black and white silent film from Argentina, in the style of Fritz Lang. It is a parable about a city whose inhabitants are at risk of losing their voice entirely to the power of a media mogul.
La Antena, certificate tbc, is released on 16 May at the ICA in London and selected cinemas nationwide.
To Kill a Mockingbird
The Tricycle Theatre is presenting a production of Harper Lee's classic, To Kill a Mockingbird, performed entirely by lawyers and judges. We join the cast as they prepare for the first night, to ask them what their professional experience is bringing to the production and what they feel about working so closely with Atticus Finch, a model of integrity for lawyers.
To Kill a Mockingbird is at the Tricycle Theatre in London from 7-10 May.
