Hans Holbein was one of the first great painters to work in England and his portraits are among the Renaissance's acknowledged masterpieces.

This evening in Night Waves Gabriel Gbadamosi is joined by the historian, Jessie Childs, the art critic, Laura Cumming and the photographer, Eamon McCabe to discuss a new exhibition of his work at the Tate Gallery in London.

Holbein in England opens at the Tate Britain on 28 September 2006 and runs until 7 January 2007.

Gabriel will also be talking to one of America 's leading contemporary writers - Richard Ford.

Ford's new book The Lay of the Land is the third of his novels to feature Frank Bascombe - the main protagonist of The Sportswriter and Independence Day which won both the Pulitzer Prize and the PEN/ Faulkner Award for fiction when it was published in 1995.

The Lay of the Land is published by Bloomsbury on 2 October 2006.
