Katherine Hepburn
These days Katherine Hepburn is considered to be one of Hollywood's greatest actresses but her stock wasn't always so high.
For years she was regarded as an outspoken outsider because, as the film historian David Thomson has written, she couldn't conceal her disdain or sense of superiority.
To make matters worse she had a fondness for wearing trousers!
It was only later in her career when she teamed up with Spencer Tracy that she won people's hearts.
This evening in Night Waves another acclaimed actress, Fiona Shaw, will be talking to Philip Dodd about the first truly independent biography of Hepburn and what it tells us about her and the whole business of celebrity.
Kate - The Woman Who Was Hepburn by David Thomson is published on 26 October by Faber.
Darfur
There'll also be a discussion of Darfur - a series of short plays at the Tricycle theatre about the humanitarian crisis in Sudan.
'Darfur -A Response: How Long is Never' is at the Tricycle Theatre in London until 28 October.
London: City of Disappearances
London's most vivid recent chronicler, Iain Sinclair will be joined by Gareth Evans and Vahni Capildeo, two of his fellow contributors to London: City of Disappearances, to discuss one of the year's most unusual anthologies and the slippery nature of urban living.
'London - City of Disappearances', edited by Iain Sinclair, is published by Hamish Hamilton.
