On Night Waves Undercurrents, liberty and choice: the government’s currently suggesting that every town could have a regulated casino; the ethics of gambling are a matter for personal decision – but there has been public uproar over the gambling bill.

At the same time, though, legislation against fox hunting is being pushed through because the majority of the public want it.

Is individual freedom to choose the fount and condition of personal morality and the common good?

Could government intervention and regulation kill our morality by killing our own sense of individual responsibility?
