What is technology doing to us? Is it our best hope for the future or an ever more intrusive virus that's ruining our lives?

Duration:

45 minutes

Programme Details

On Night Waves: Undercurrents tonight, Philip Dodd asks what technology is doing to us. What impact is it having on our daily lives, our bodies and the way we relate to each other? Is society bending technology to its will, or is technology dictating the paths we take? And is it sensible to believe that technological innovations offer the best hope of a steadily-improving world? Or is that just the latest illusion to follow the decline of religion and ideology?

To explore these questions, Philip is joined by the philosopher John Gray, and Charlie Leadbeater - author of Up the Down Escalator: Why the Global Pessimists Are Wrong, along with the historian Jonathan Sawday, the writer Iain Sinclair, and a cognitive psychologist, Lisa Halabi, who tests new products to assess their usability.

That's Night Waves: Undercurrents with Philip Dodd at 9.30pm, here on Radio 3.

Presenter: Philip Dodd
Producer: Phil Tinline
