Night Waves Undercurrents:  Is there an avant-garde? And if not , why not?

What springs to mind when you hear the words avant-garde? Do you think of twelve tone music, or perhaps the theatre of the Absurd? Or do you simply wonder whether there is still such a thing? In Undercurrents Philip Dodd will be considering this very question and of course a host of others. His guests will be the eminent literary theorist, Terry Eagleton, the film maker, Mike Figgis, the writer Iain Sinclair and the art historian, Alyce Mahon. Join them and Philip on BBC Radio 3 shortly after nine thirty and stay ahead of the game.

Presenter: Philip Dodd
