Matthew Sweet discuss the controversial Oscar-nominated film Paradise Now which explores the fears and motivations of two childhood friends recruited for a suicide bomb attack in Tel Aviv.

Also on Night Waves the author of a new book that explores the history of the Union Jack describes how he embarked on the project thinking he was writing the flag's obituary. He explains to Matthew why two black British rappers and Gordon Brown have since changed his mind.

And Matthew reviews the ambitious new six part television drama series The Street starring Jim Broadbent, Jane Horrocks and Timothy Spall. Written by one of Britain 's most influential writers, Jimmy McGovern, it visits a different house in the Street each episode and examines how the lives therein intersect around the same events.
